Frederick Douglass Memorial BridgeThe Bridge District: it’s DC’s newest hub and CIP Finishes’ newest project.

Starting this April, CIP Finishes will supply various items for 757 units of The Douglass, a multifamily project with HITT Contracting, developed by Redbrick LMD. This building marries protected, natural landscapes in the city with the ever-growing need for housing—and it’s transforming the area just south of the Anacostia River. It shares a namesake with the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge over the Anacostia.

We will be fully outfitting bathrooms with shower doors, mirrors, partitions and more. We’re also working in common spaces with mirrors, lockers, mailboxes, fire extinguishers, bike racks and our in-demand item—pet spas.

That’s not all. In-unit shelving (which we’ll install), fitness-area finishes, and more are on tap for this project, which represents more than $1.2 million in sales for us.

D.C.’s new “Bridge District” is just across the newly redesigned Frederick Douglass Bridge and will include nearly 1,000 housing units and more than 24,000 square feet of retail by the time the second phase of the project is delivered in 2025.

According to a report by WTOP, “The new buildings will be located along Howard Road in Southeast D.C., between South Capitol Street and I-295, a short walk from Anacostia Metro Station, and will bring a much-needed housing boost east of the Anacostia River. The lack of housing options in Wards 7 and 8 has long been a focus of District leaders.”

But the design of the buildings isn’t just focused on housing needs. “With nearly 100 acres of immediately adjacent protected natural landscapes, the Bridge District combines innovative architecture and open space with a modern lifestyle,” says the developer. Many of the units include balconies and the community adjoins pedestrian pathways and cycling connections.

It’s got even more going for it: Metrorail’s Green Line lands on-site.

CIP Finishes has had a role in several projects that have previously transformed the nation’s capital into walkable, livable neighborhoods. Here are some highlights:

  • In the historic Eckington neighborhood, CIP worked on Eckington Park for contractor Foulger Pratt (now CFP), which brought 328 residential units and retail space. In addition, we worked on Eckington Yards, by general contractor CBG Building Company. It’s a mixed-use community of four buildings with underground parking. The project features 457 apartments and 45 two-level condos across three buildings plus 179 luxury condos in its 11-story high-rise.
  • Press House, another Foulger Pratt project, is close-by at 301-331 N St. and adjacent to the amenity-rich neighborhood of NoMa and Union Market. The mixed-use Press House redevelops an existing industrial building at the site as creative and retail space and offers new residential and hotel use.
  • CIP Finishes also worked on 465-unit West Half in the Navy Yard neighborhood with HITT Contracting and LBG Smith. Separated from the Bridge District by the Anacostia River, the project is just a half block from the the main entrance to Nationals Park. We delivered and installed interior hardware finishes there. It’s one of several projects we worked on that have added vibrance to the area around the ballpark.

All of these projects amplified their neighborhoods’ distinctive presence in the city, and we are glad to be working on another transformative building.
