Transit-oriented development is being heralded by state and local officials in the Greater Washington, D.C., region for the many benefits it offers.

Those include reducing traffic congestion and pollution by providing opportunities for people to live close to convenient public transportation, and boosting local economies as this type of development creates vibrant neighborhoods full of restaurants and other businesses.

At CIP Finishes, we have been watching this trend for several years, as we’ve played a role in the development of several apartment communities that are near current or future Metro stations.

A study by the Greater Washington Partnership recently identified the Greenbelt and New Carrolton rail stations in D.C.’s Maryland’s suburbs as “ready to rock and roll” in terms of the transit opportunities they offered potential development.

CIP Finishes will be furnishing and installing interior hardware at Ellisdale Construction’s New Carrollton apartment complex, as well as NRP Group’s Motiva Greenbelt community. Also in Maryland, we are working or have worked on apartment communities near Petworth Station, Largo Metro, Odenton, Bethesda and Silver Spring.

The Elm, a project we’re working on with Bozzuto near the Bethesda Metro station, is bringing a distinctive and modern addition to the Montgomery County community’s skyline.

“Over the more than three decades that CIP Finishes has been working in multifamily construction, we’ve really followed the development of the region,” said Paul Milde, founder and president of CIP Finishes. “Some of these communities are game-changers for the areas they redevelop. They create new and attractive places for people to live and not have to spend hours in their cars to get to work.”

The trend is also evident in Virginia, where we have worked on several projects near Metro’s Silver Line, which is expanding rail service to Dulles International Airport, and has brought service to the popular Tysons area.

Passport NOVA, a 344-unit community to be built by CBG Building Company, is one of the latest projects we’re involved in there. Passport NOVA is located minutes from the Innovation Center station, which will be on Metro’s extended Silver Line. Also along the Silver Line, we have installed or will install hardware:

  • For Skanska at The Heming, a 410-unit luxury apartment community in Tysons.
  • For HITT Contracting at The Signature, part of the Reston Town Center development.
  • For CBG Building Company at Station on Silver, a 400-unit transit-oriented community on the extended Silver Line in Herndon.

Visit our Portfolio page and look at the map to see a progression of projects along the Silver Line, from Tysons, through Reston and out toward Dulles, where the expanded Silver Line could open later this year.

“It’s exciting to be a part of creating attractive and convenient new communities for people to call home,” Milde said. “We’ve seen first-hand how transit-oriented development can really breathe new life into some of these areas.”
